Meet the Team

Professor Robert Hinchliffe MB ChB(Bristol), MD(Nott.), FRCS(RCS), UK Chief Investigator

Robert is a Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Bristol, Bristol Surgical Trials Centre and Bristol NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. He is an Honorary Consultant Vascular Surgeon in the Bristol, Bath, Weston Vascular Network. He has an interest in diabetes related complications of the lower limb and minimally invasive vascular surgery. His research interest is in clinical trials, the development of new technologies in surgery and their application to drive evidence based practice for patients with vascular disease.

He has led NIHR HTA funded trials in vascular disease and is currently Editor of the British Journal of Surgery. He has co-chaired the guideline development group for International Working Group of the Diabetic Foot and is a member of the European Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Global Vascular Guidelines Group.

Robert is the Chief Investigator for the LEADER-PAD trial in the UK.

Associate Professor Lucy Culliford BSc, PhD(Lond.), Trial Methodologist

Lucy is an Associate Professor (Trial Methodology) at the Bristol Trials Centre. She has worked at the University of Bristol since 2000 and has extensive experience working in clinical trials. Lucy is the UK Trial Methodologist for LEADER-PAD.

 

Dr Caroline Pope BSc, PhD (Bristol), Trial Portfolio Lead

Caroline has over 9 years of experience working in multi-centre, national/international clinical trials (2015 – present).  Prior to working in clinical trials, Caroline worked in academic research at the University of Bristol. Caroline is the Trial Portfolio Lead at the Bristol Trials Centre.

Lucy Ellis BSc, MRes, Trial Manager

Lucy started her career in clinical trials in 2009 and has worked across a range of different study types/designs and disease areas. She is the UK LEADER-PAD Trial Manager. She is based in the Bristol Trials Centre who are coordinating the trial in the United Kingdom. She is responsible for the day to day management of the study in the UK. Craig Riddington, Trial Co-ordinator

Craig started working at the Bristol Trials Centre, University of Bristol having run his own business as a commercial photographer. Before this, he worked in database management, project management and as a regulatory manager for AstraZeneca. He also has experience in an occupational health trial setting. Craig will be providing support to the UK Trial Manager and team throughout the study.

Surinder Kaur BSc, Deputy Trial Co-ordinator

Surinder has worked on a number of different trials in mental health, primary care and surgery. As part of the LEADER-PAD Trial team, Surinder will be providing support to the UK Trial Manager and Trial Co-ordinator throughout the study and is looking forward to working on her first international study.

Dr Beverly Shirkey BSc, MSc, PhD, Biostatistician

Beverly started her career in clinical trials working as an Assistant Trial Manager for ALLHAT (~44,000 participants studying post-market hypertension drugs) while studying for a Masters in Biostatistics, and has worked on over 30 clinical trials as well as various clinical quality control projects.  She has earned both a Masters and PhD in biostatistics in the US before immigrating to the UK. She is the UK LEADER-PAD Trial Statistician and based in the Bristol Trials Centre who are coordinating the trial in the United Kingdom.
